The Board of Trustees brings with it diverse experience and skills including business development, non-profit management, human rights advocacy, fundraising, and implementation of large-scale development programs. Trustees meet annually in-person with interim communication by phone.
Mr. M.R. Ranganathan
Mr. M.R. Ranganathan is one of the founding trustees of SAATHII and has had involvement with the organization since 2002. Rangasan received his undergraduate degree from the College of Engineering, Guindy, in 1966. Rangasan has a renowned career in business, technology, and non-profit management, spanning over five decades.
With more than forty years of experience working with Japan, Rangasan has promoted business partnerships and Indo-Japanese cultural exchange, assisting such companies as DSQ Software, Sofil Information Technologies, and Nihon Technology Private Limited in establishing their presence in Japan. He also worked for the Government of Iraq as an Indian Expert in Piling and Foundation, and served in Basra during the Iran-Iraq war.
He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Nihon Technology Private Limited, and heads ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI which promotes Japanese language studies, Japanese management techniques and cross-cultural communication. His contributions to Indo-Japanese cultural and business relations have earned him the Japanese Emperor’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, awarded by the Government of Japan in 2005.
He is also an avid photographer and philatelist, and has authored the book "From Survey School to Tech Temple", an account of the 200-year history of his alma mater, the College of Engineering, Guindy.
SAATHII’s Chennai office functioned out of the workspace generously donated by ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI in the early years, before it moved to its present location in Nungambakkam.
Mr. Mohammed Owais Khan
Mr. Mohammed Owais Khan has been a Trustee of SAATHII since 2004. He holds a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Warangal, and worked briefly on his PhD in Development Research (incorporating the interconnected areas of Economics, Environment and Energy) at IGIDR, Mumbai.
Owais has a distinguished career record, having held senior positions in various multinationals and Indian corporations. These include Head of Partner Pre-sales, Hewlett-Packard, Asia Pacific and Japan; Head of Pre-sales, Hewlett-Packard India; Head of Client Services, EMC, South Asia. He has also worked as the Business Unit Manager, Storage Products, Compaq Computer (India) Pvt. Ltd., where he was responsible for the storage business in the country.
Owais has also been involved in campaigns for human rights and social justice, and has been an LGBT community organizer and advocate since 1993. He was a convener of India’s first national LGBT conference ‘Yaarana’ in 1999, bringing together several groups under the banner ‘LGBT India’. He played a key role in organizing India’s first Pride Parade, in association with the groups Integration and Counsel Club in Kolkata on July 2, 1999. This was, fortuitously, the same date that exactly a decade later, a Delhi High Court decision decriminalized homosexual relations between consenting adults.
Owais is currently working independently with Vasundhara: A People Development Consultancy. Vasundhara’s primary concern is what he calls the ‘4E’s: Economy, Ecology, Energy and Eternity.’ These, for him are the engines for fighting the tyranny of ignorance, “for ignorance is the mother of strife within and outside of the human heart.”
Mr. Sunil Kumar Boyini
Sunil is currently Managing Director of PluralSoft Ltd., a healthcare IT solutions company with operations in the USA and India. He has extensive international business development, corporate strategy and business leadership experience. Sunil has over 24 years of investing, operational, financial, organization building ,change management, fund raising, team building, employee motivation and retention, managing start ups and entrepreneurial experience. He has trained sales and marketing professionals; conducted seminars, trade shows etc and built user communities across US, Europe, Middle East, Far East and India.
He is excited about how IT and Communication technology can transform the quality and access to healthcare across the developed and developing nations. and hopes to be able to play a role in transforming public health in India.
His other interests are organic farming and sustainable farming. He is an office bearer of Vishwa Krishi Vikas, an NGO that promotes organic farming and Indian traditional methods of farming.
