The Calcutta Branch Office of SAATHII was started in May 2002 and initially functioned from the home of Calcutta Office Director Pawan Dhall in Palm Avenue. In January 2004, the office moved to Salt Lake City and was located there till July 2008 when it moved to its current location at 229, Kalitala Main Road, Purbachal (North), Calcutta 700 078.
Programs in the Calcutta Office focus on information dissemination, research, networking, advocacy and training on interlinked issues of gender, sexuality, human rights, sexual and reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS prevention, care, support and treatment. They also provide technical assistance on skills sets that complement HIV/AIDS knowledge building and are crucial to the HIV response in India, key examples being leadership, community mobilization, organizational and program development, fund raising, situational analyses, documentation, behaviour change communication, media, policy and cultural advocacy, monitoring and evaluation.
Most of the Calcutta programs involve partnerships with voluntary and government agencies working with sexual minorities, PLHIV, women, youth and other vulnerable populations in eastern and north-eastern India. Programs with a national coverage in partnership with civil society, government and multilateral agencies are also undertaken by this office.
The Calcutta Office oversees a Field Office in Bhubaneswar, which acts as an extension centre for programs managed by the Calcutta and Hyderabad Offices of SAATHII.
