Congratulations to SAATHII's Karur team for completing 100 trainings since the inception of the team in 2006. Trainings have focused on building capacity of doctors and paramedical staff at district- and subdistrict levels in provision of HIV care, as well as training for Expert Patient Trainers (PLHIV). Focal districts have included Salem (public sector), Karur (public and private sectors), Trichy, Kanchipuram, Viluppuram, and Kanyakumari (private sector).

SAATHII's Karur office was established in April 2007 to pilot the HIV care decentralization project 'Integrated Management of Adolescent and Adult Illness' (IMAI) in partnership with WHO and the Karur district collectorate.
Nakshatra, a public-private partnership for strengthening HIV and STI care in the private sector in five districts (including Karur) was launched in October 2008 with support from USAID via APAC/VHS. In November 2009, the Nakshatra operations have migrated to a new office in Trichy.
In 2009, through the SAMARTH initiative, SAATHII also supported the district-level HIV/AIDS program by developing operational guidelines, training and orientation packages for the soon-to-be-established District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) and its partners in the health administration at Karur.
All these projects have aimed to develop Karur as a model district and learning site for decentralized HIV care in both public and private sectors.
