People living with HIV are in need of additional calories and micronutrients. Nutrition plays an important role in delaying disease progression among HIV infected individuals. Recognizing the importance of nutrition in care and support of HIV affected families, APFCC program provided nutrition support to HIV positive individuals from 2009-2011. The following are the nutrition support accomplishments.
APFCC - Nutrition Support accomplishments:
- Identified nutrition product, Ragi Ready to Eat Mix powder (RREM) through community consulations
- Piloted the RREM nutrition supplementation product with 78 People Living With HIV (PLHIV), followed by six months provision to 99 clients
- Nutritional raw materials and powders and Multi Vitamin Tablets (MVT) were given to 200 clients over a six month period
- Developed IEC materials for nutrition education: RREM recipe booklet, MVT guidelines, and a nutrition counseling flipbook
